Can Tooth Decay Be Prevented?

Dental caries can be prevented by regular oral and dental care, floss use, and regular dental check-ups. When dental caries seen during examinations are detected early and treatment is started early, it prevents tooth loss.

What is Filling?

The process performed to restore the structural function of the tooth damaged due to caries is called Filling. With the filling, the tooth can be saved to a large extent, but regular dental and oral care after the filling, using dental floss and regular dental check-up will prolong the life of the filling. If the necessary care and attention is not given after the filling, tooth decay may recur, root canal treatment may be needed, and in worse cases, tooth loss may occur. Delaying the filling of the decayed tooth can lead to these.

What is Inlay/Onlay Filling?

Inlay filling is more advantageous and often preferred in cases where it is possible to cover the tooth decay with normal filling, but because it is specially produced according to the tooth structure and caries size, it is placed inside the tooth. Onlay filling is preferred for caries on the upper part of the tooth. Like inlay filling, onlay filling is specially produced according to the structure of the tooth and the size of the caries.

What is Porcelain Laminate?

Before the procedure, only 0.3-0.7mm of the anterior surfaces of the teeth to which porcelain lamina will be applied is thinned and maximum protection of the intact tooth tissue is ensured. Porcelain dental laminates are adhered to the thinned area and the process is completed. Since the most suitable shade for your natural tooth is selected with tooth color scales, there is no tonal difference between your natural tooth and porcelain lamina.

What is Zirconium Crown?

Zirconium crown is the process of covering the tooth by reducing it. Zirconium crown is a frequently preferred method in aesthetic dental treatment. In aesthetic dentistry, it is very important to be robust and have a high tissue compatibility. Zirconium crowns are robust in application and have high tissue compatibility.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment is the removal of the thread-shaped pulp in the center of the tooth. After the damaged pulp is removed from its location, the remaining space should be meticulously cleaned and reshaped and filled. With root canal treatment, it is largely possible to save the tooth without tooth extraction. However, root canal treatment should not be considered as a definitive solution, attention should be paid to oral and dental care, and the condition of the tooth should be kept under control with regular dental examinations.

Can a root canal be made in a tooth that has had root canal treatment before?

It is possible to extend the life of the procedure by applying the root canal treatment again to the tooth that has previously undergone root canal treatment.

After the filling is done, I have tingling in my teeth, is this normal?

After the filling treatment of the tooth, the complaints of tingling may increase depending on the proximity of the caries to the nerve. But this pain is not expected to be a pain that effects the patient’s sleep at night.

If the tingling is mild and momentary, there is no problem and it is expected to pass with a decreasing momentum day by day. The patient should go to the specialist dentist immediately and have an examination in case of prolonged (1-2 hours) aches and pains at night.

The first priority of the specialist dentist is to save the sensitive tooth and try to treat the teeth without going to root canal treatment.

Despite experiencing intense pain, patients do not come to the dentist’s examination and try to relieve their pain at home with their own methods.

Does smoking cause tooth decay?

Smoking indirectly causes tooth decay. Since smoking reduces the flow of saliva, the mouth cannot be cleaned naturally, which increases the likelihood of tooth decay.
